Polaris Training for New Staff

What Polaris training is required for new library staff?

Answer

New library staff and volunteers accessing Polaris must complete the relevant Polaris permissions training in Niche Academy before receiving their Polaris login information from TSI.

In order to access Niche Academy, a NLLS email is required. Accordingly, when setting up a new staff member, please follow these steps:

  1. Reach out to ask@nlls.ab.ca to let us know the name of the new staff member and the permission tiers they'll need in Polaris. TSI will create an official email address for them and provide a link to Niche Academy.
  2. Direct the staff member to complete the relevant Polaris permissions training in Niche Academy.
  3. Let us know once they have finished and we will set up their Polaris account and provide their login information.

The Tier 1 module contains information about FOIP and the TRAC Operational Guidelines. We must demonstrate that library staff are familiar with FOIP before providing access to Polaris, and the information about TRAC is important information for a new staff member to learn.

The other permissions modules are required if the staff member has those higher tiers. Need help determining which permission tiers a staff member needs? Check out this KB article for more details, and send in a ticket to ask@nlls.ab.ca if you have further questions.

What about current staff?

Current staff members have until June 30th to complete their Polaris permissions training. Your consultants will be reaching out in advance of the deadline if there are any staff members who still need to complete the training. For more information, see this KB article.
