3.0 LIBRARY BOARD - APPOINTMENT
On being established the Municipal Library Board is a corporation, known as the “Town of Viking Library Board” and shall be governed by the Alberta Libraries Act.
3.1 The Board shall consist of not fewer than five (5) and not more than ten (10) members appointed by Council
3.2 A person who is an employee of the Library Board is not eligible to be a member of the Board
3.3 Not more than two (2) members of council may be members of the Board
3.4 A member of the Board is eligible for reappointment for only 2 additional consecutive terms of office, unless at least 2/3 of the council passes a resolution stating that the member may be reappointed for more than 3 consecutive terms.
3.5 Appointments shall be for a term of up to three (3) years, and shall normally begin in October
3.6 Board vacancies shall be advertised in local media with closing date for application
3.7 The appointments of members shall be made on a date fixed by Council. A vacancy shall be filled by Council as soon as is reasonably possible.
3.8 Town Council appoints new member(s) as per policy and notifies, by letter, each new member of their appointment and term
3.9 The Library Board notifies the members of the next regular Library Board meeting date and time
3.10 The new member(s) assume their duties at the next regular Library Board meeting
