Naloxone Policy

Answer

  1. The Library ensures that library staff are provided tools and training to preserve life, prevent harm and promote recovery.
  2. Although any member of the public is able to administer Naloxone, library staff will receive training to learn to recognize the signs of opioid overdose, administer Naloxone and provide after-care until emergency help arrives.
  3. Library staff have the duty to care for themselves and others, to provide First Aid assistance to the level of their comfort and competence, and to call on expert assistance if necessary.
  4. The Library Manager shall be responsible for ensuring:
    1. there are at least two Naloxone kits on site in a secure location in the staff room
    2. the kits are replaced prior to expiration and expired kits disposed of properly
    3. all staff are trained
    4. new staff receive training prior to the end of their probation period.
