Answer

Authority of the Board

The Board is the legal entity bearing the responsibility and authority to run the affairs of the Library, subject to conditions as set out in The Libraries Act.

Membership of the Board

Board trustees are appointed by Village Council to serve for a period of three years. A member of a municipal library board is eligible to be re-appointed for two additional terms of office, unless at least 2/3 of the whole Council passes a resolution stating that the trustee may be re-appointed for more than three consecutive terms.

Composition of the Board

A maximum of six members shall be appointed from the general public, and one member from the Village Council.

Executive of the Board

The executive is elected annually from within the Board and will consist of:

  • Chairman
  • Vice Chairman
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

Decisions made by the executive must be ratified by the Board at the earliest possible opportunity.
