BACKGROUND
The Board recognizes that more of the needs of the community can be effectively met by participating in resource and material sharing through the Alberta inter-library loan program.
POLICY
The Library Board is prepared to cooperate with neighboring library boards.
GUIDELINES
1. The Town of Bruderheim Library Board will provide information services to its patrons and will provide inter-library loans to other libraries on request.
2. The Town of Bruderheim Library Board will provide information services to its patrons and will provide information services to other public libraries on request.
3. The Town of Bruderheim Library Board supports provincial library resource sharing policy by making available to other libraries its library materials and the information contained within those materials.
4. The Town of Bruderheim Library Board accepts responsibility for securing information beyond its own resources by borrowing materials which it does not own, and which cannot be purchased, or for which the demand does not justify purchase.
5. Members of Metro Kalyn Community Library will be given priority in the use of materials which are part of the Library holdings.
6. Some materials owned by the Library may not be loaned, at the discretion of the Library Manager.
7. Inter-library loans and other resource sharing arrangements as they arise, shall be made in keeping with the Alberta Library Act.
8. Charges for the inter-library loan may be assessed and charged to libraries that do not participate in the inter-library loan program.
9. During extraordinary events, such as pandemic, both the lending and borrowing of inter-library loans may be suspended.
PROCEDURES
1. Inter-library loans are obtained for registered patrons only.
2. Inter-library loan materials borrowed by library patrons are subject to the loan procedures of Metro Kalyn Community Library, as outlined in their respective by-laws, unless it is otherwise stipulated by the lending library.
3. Borrowing libraries shall pay the lending library for any loss or damaged loan books.
4. The service shall not include reference materials.
