The Smoky Lake Library Board will strive to enhance communication and build stronger community relationships through the use of social media.
Policy
- Postings may include, but are not limited to: Smoky Lake Public Library or community news, programs and events; news and articles pertaining to libraries and literacy; announcements; acquisitions and reading recommendations; and changes in library hours, staffing and operations.
- Designated employees (as designated by the Library Manager) may create content on Smoky Lake Public Library social media sites at their discretion as long as it does not constitute inappropriate use as defined in this policy.
- Social media sites shall be monitored regularly.
- The Smoky Lake Public Library staff reserves the right to remove or restrict any inappropriate content posted by visitors.
- When representing the Smoky Lake Public Library on social media, whether on official Smoky Lake Public Library social media applications or their own personal accounts, employees are expected to communicate in a respectful and appropriate manner.
- As much as possible, information will be confirmed for accuracy before posting.
- Inappropriate use is defined as creating public posts or sending private messages which:
- Reflect negatively on the Smoky Lake Public Library or library staff
- Contain personal or confidential information
- Do not abide by library policies
- Do not abide by municipal, provincial and federal laws
- Include profanity, copyrighted information, defamatory or offensive comments, personal opinions, sexual content, promotion of illegal activities, discrimination
- Contain any content deemed inappropriate by the Library Manager or Library Board
