Background

The Library’s Internet public access computers enable the Library to provide information beyond the limits of its collection. 

Policy

  1. Staff will provide initial guidance to get on the Internet and answer questions; however, the staff will not offer detailed personalized instruction.
  2. Staff does not assess the merit of the information accessed through the Internet and is not responsible for its contents. 
  3. Users are responsible for the Internet sites they reach and the information accessed.
  4. Parents/guardians are responsible for information accessed by their children.
  5. Any person using the Internet or computers shall follow library rules.
  6. In accessing the Internet, users are subject to federal and provincial legislation related to Internet use, including the provision of the Criminal Code regarding obscenity, child pornography, sedition and the incitement of hatred. Users may not use this network for any illegal purposes.
  7. Materials on the Internet may be subject to copyright laws which users are responsible for upholding.
  8. Misuse and/or abuse of the terminal, Internet access and/or the rules governing Internet access will result in suspension of Internet access privileges at the discretion of the Library Manager.
  9. Unlawful activities may result in prosecution.
  10. Patrons must accept the “NLLS wireless Hotspot Connection Conditions and Terms of Agreement” (appendix 301.1) when authenticating and connecting to the wireless hotspot as provided in the library.
  11. Any material downloaded or saved to computer will be removed by the end of the day.

Library staff reserves the right to:

  1. limit Internet use in terms of the amount of time used
  2. terminate an Internet session at any time
