Power BI
Answer
Introduction to Power BI Data Visualization Dashboards
What is Power BI?
Power BI is a collection of software services, apps, and connectors that work together to turn unrelated sources of data into coherent, visually immersive, and interactive insights. Whether data is a simple Excel spreadsheet, or from a SQL database, Power BI easily connects to these data sources, visualize (or discover) what's important, and share that with anyone who also has a Pro license.
How Power BI Affects Member Libraries + NLLS Staff
The Northern Lights Library System (NLLS) provides statistical data to its member libraries through Power BI reports. These reports support key reporting functions to library boards and the Public Library Services Branch (PLSB). In 2021, Power BI replaced the past method of disseminating this data through email as this method was inconsistent, fragmented, and difficult to interpret, hindering efficient data-driven decision-making.
NLLS staff gather data from a wide range of sources, including eResources, Polaris (SQL Data), Google Analytics, BNC, LibAnswers, Aruba WiFi reports, government population data, in-house headquarters data, and local member library statistics. Member libraries require both monthly updates and annual totals, and value statement data is compiled annually.
