Introduction
Audio-visual (A/V) items often come in cardboard packaging, which lacks durability for circulation among patrons and libraries. To address this issue, Northern Lights Library System (NLLS) offers an A/V repackaging service designed to enhance the durability and longevity of these items. This service improves structural integrity while preserving the original aesthetic quality of the products. Replaceable sleeves are available at a minimal cost, providing a cost-effective solution.
Repackaging Service Enrollment
Member libraries may access the A/V repackaging service by contacting Northern Lights Library System (NLLS) at ask@nlls.ab.ca. Costs for these services are typically deducted from the library’s book allotment unless alternative arrangements are made. For items not acquired through the book allotment, NLLS can provide invoicing as needed. Charges for this service are limited to the cost of supplies, calculated using 2015 pricing. Staffing costs are not included, as these are covered under the existing member library contracts with NLLS. NLLS will not repackage anything unless directed by the member library.
Packaging Services
Audiobooks
All audiobooks originally sold in fragile packaging or packaging that poses a risk to the discs' integrity are repackaged into sturdy plastic cases with protective disc sleeves. As part of the process:
- Attaching the barcode, spine label and bookplate.
- Each disc is labeled with the library code.
Music CDs
Music CDs in plastic cases are repackaged unless otherwise directed by the library manager. The service includes:
- Attaching the barcode, spine label and bookplate.
- Labeling each disc with the library code.
MP3s
MP3s are repackaged only upon the direct request of the library manager. The pricing structure for this service aligns with the rates established for DVDs.
DVDs
Like audiobooks, DVDs in regular cases are repackaged into durable plastic cases with protective disc sleeves. This service is provided exclusively upon the direct request of the library manager, as it is not included in standard offerings.
The service includes:
- Affixing the barcode, spine label, and bookplate.
- Labeling each disc with the library code.
