OROS Grant MOU -- How does this work?

Back in September, NLLS sent out MOU's to provide local library service to indigenous communities. At the time I thought I knew what that entailed- blame it on my overstimulated brain during that period of hiring and running the programs. Now I am looking back at it and I'm not so sure of myself.

Could you explain to me, like you are speaking to a child, what exactly we need to do to fulfill this MOU? To be honest, I had forgotten about it until yesterday.

Help me, NLLS. You're our only hope.

Answer

The OROS grant supports library access for Indigenous communities, similar to how the Rural Services Grant funds public library services in other communities. Since many Indigenous communities lack their own libraries, this funding typically compensates nearby libraries that serve their residents, ensuring equitable and free access to library services.

NLLS is working to empower Indigenous communities to establish their own library boards and services. As they do, the funding will transition directly to them. For now, these funds are intended to support local libraries in engaging with nearby Indigenous communities, understanding their needs, and providing relevant services.

At the year’s end, we will submit a report on how the funding was used and its impact on Indigenous communities. Please use the attached OROS Grant Report 2024 Template embedded in your grant agreement to detail your activities and outcomes.
