What is a Microsoft license?

Does it mean I have to pay Microsoft? How many do I get? What does this give me?

Answer

Different Microsoft licenses give you access to different Microsoft products, like Word, Teams, or Outlook. If you are looking to expand access to Microsoft products for your library's staff, send a ticket to ask@nlls.ab.ca.

Here are the levels:

A1 license

Access: Office 365 – browser-only access to Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Forms, Power Automate, Teams, OneDrive

Cost: Free, 1 per staff member (unlimited)

A3 license

Access: Desktop and browser access to Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, OneDrive. Browser-only access to Forms, Power Automate

Cost: $88/license/year. This cost is covered by NLLS for all full-time staff. A3 licenses can be requested for part-time, seasonal, or volunteer staff, but the library will need to cover the $88/license/year cost.

Power BI License

Access: Power BI

Cost: $69/license/year. 1 Power BI license per library is covered by NLLS for a 1 year trial only.
