Weeded Items

Our Library has done a big weeding.

Do you have any suggestions where we could take /dispose of these items?

Answer

A common thing for libraries to do with their good quality weeded items is host a used book sale to get the materials back to the community. Some libraries keep a shelf at the front of the library with items available for purchase, and others host an annual or seasonal book sale.

If you have a friends of the library group this would be a great way for them to raise money for the library.

NLLS HQ is currently investigating options for selling weeded books online -- More information will be coming on this subject!

Some organizations that take used books include:

  • Salvation Army
  • Goodwill
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Retirement Homes
  • Freecycle
  • Value Village
  • Books for Africa
  • Prisons and Prison Book Projects
  • Better World Books
